Action:

A double bridle acts on the flexion in the horse’s neck and head position. It is used to work on two things:
The curb bit encourages the horse to lift its neck by exerting pressure at the jaw.
The bridoon bit encourages the horse to lower its head.
For your horse’s comfort, we recommend not using the double bridle to force your horse into position, but rather to refine its forward movement and getting into position with ease.

Restriction:

Use of a bridoon bit means you must also use a curb chain, curb bit and French noseband. It is very important to properly adjust the curb chain to suit your horse’s experience and needs as well as the work you plan to do. When you start using a double bridle, we recommend working with a professional to ensure everything is properly fitted to your horse and to help you use the bridoon bit and curb chain in the right way with your horse.

Dressage level:

A double bridle is meant for experienced dressage riders and horses. We do not recommend using it with young horses. They do not yet have enough dressage training and their jaws are not finished developing.

Instructions for use:

We recommend adjusting the curb bit to have about two fingers between the chain and the horse’s jaw. You should have about two fingers’ space between the bridoon bit and the lower hooks.
The curb chain should lie flat and be adjusted so that when the reins are adjusted, the bit arms move to a 45° angle at most to the bridle straps.
The tighter the chain, the smaller the angle and the more severe the action will be. The looser the chain, the larger the angle, and the lighter the action.

Bit size:

The mouthpieces should extend a few millimetres past the horse’s mouth on either side.
